Statement of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hanoi

in condemnation of the desecration of the Quran in some European countries

            The Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hanoi strongly condemns the heinous act of burning the Holy Quran. This tragic, conspiratorial and dangerous incident, which was carried out under the pretext of freedom of expression, insulted the values of more than two billion Muslims in the world and hurt them deeply.

            We believe that under the shadow of awareness, the real violators of human rights and abusers of basic values such as freedom of expression will regret their scandalous and imprudent actions.

            We, the Muslims of the world, call upon the authorities of Sweden and Denmark, as well as the international community, to respond to this ugly act in a quick, proportionate and effective manner. It is appropriate and of course necessary that such incidents which cause harassment and resentment to more than two billion people should be seriously investigated as a gross violation of human rights and the perpetrators should be held accountable for their actions.
